Find the Best Sunset Spot Near You

Sunset Atlas is a free interactive map that scores sunset viewing quality for every location across Europe. Tap anywhere to get a sunset score from 0 to 100, based on terrain analysis, vegetation detection, and horizon openness at 30-meter resolution.

How It Works

We analyse elevation data, tree cover, and landscape features to calculate how good the sunset view is from any point on the map. West-facing hilltops, lakeshores, and open ridgelines score highest. Dense forests and east-facing valleys score lowest. Pick any date to see how the score changes as the sunset direction shifts through the seasons.

Best Sunset Spots Near Me

Use the "Find best spots nearby" feature to discover top-rated sunset viewpoints within any radius of your location. The app scans thousands of points, filters by proximity to roads and paths, and ranks the results. Each spot includes coordinates, a quality score, and a link to get driving directions.

Will Tonight's Sunset Be Good?

Sunset Atlas answers "will tonight's sunset be good?" with a real-time cloud forecast overlay. The cloud score analyses low, mid, and high cloud cover along the sun's path to predict how colourful the sky will be at sunset. Clear skies score around 30 — pleasant but plain. Scattered high cloud with clear lower atmosphere scores 70+ — that's when you get the dramatic reds and pinks.

The forecast uses GFS weather model data updated twice daily, sampling cloud conditions at 13 atmospheric pressure levels along the sunset direction out to 100 km. It detects thin multi-layer haze that standard cloud cover forecasts miss, giving you a more accurate picture of what the sunset sky will actually look like.

Total Solar Eclipse — 12 August 2026

A total solar eclipse crosses Europe at sunset on 12 August 2026, with totality over northern Spain and a deep partial across the UK and France. Because the Sun will be very low in the sky, a clear western horizon is decisive. Our eclipse viewing map checks whether the low Sun will actually be visible from a given spot at the moment of the eclipse, not just whether it is a good sunset location.

Check eclipse visibility and the best viewpoints for Geneva, Lausanne, Zurich, Bern, London, Bristol, Plymouth, Bilbao, Santander, Oviedo, Gijón, A Coruña, Zaragoza, Valladolid, Burgos, Barcelona, Valencia, and Madrid.
